Who do you say I am?

Matthew 16:13-19

This was the question Jesus asked the disciples. The answer to this question reveals a powerful truth that will help us in our everyday lives.

Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.

Jesus excitement at Peter’s answer was not because of Peter’s wisdom, but that he had accessed and received wisdom from the Father in heaven.

Peter’s faith and security in Jesus at that moment gave Him access to his Father in heaven.

The issue of our identity is significant in relation to our personal security.
This doesn’t mean that our security and confidants comes from who we are, rather who He is. Therefore if we believe in Jesus and trust Him we can be confident and secure.

Jesus didn’t ask this question because He was insecure. He asked this question to reveal a truth.

Peter’s answer reveals that faith, and trust in Jesus, and our security in Christ are the keys that give access to God’s Kingdom. If you believe and trust in Him, you can come and unlock Heaven.

If we believe and trust in Jesus, we are sons and daughters of God. We have been given the “Keys to the Kingdom” and these keys give us entry to a place where we can be refreshed, empowered, and restored.
